WHAT IS UPRT ???

Updated: Apr 12, 2022

UPRT stands for Upset Prevention and Recovery Training. The term “UPRT” comes from ICAO Doc10011 and is seen in EASA Part-FCL, FAA AC120-111, IATA Guidance Material & Best Practices and many regulatory requirements for example ASEAN CAA groups

They have found out that “Upset” is a precursor of LOC-I

and revealed that some existing practices were found to be not only ineffective but were also considered a contributory factor in inappropriate responses by some flight crews. When we are talking about LOC-I, it is a “pilot training” issue.

So UPRT plays an important part in the industry

by helping pilots gain the skills necessary to recognize, prevent, and if necessary, recover from an unexpected airplane upset.

UPRT provides provide comprehensive academic training or theoretical knowledge that covers the broad spectrum of issues surrounding airplane upsets and focuses on related topics for example aerodynamics.

UPRT also provides specific training in actual flight on a capable light airplane.

When introducing multi-crew operations, UPRT is conducted in non-type-specific flight simulation training devices (FSTDs).

“Frightened human beings will only do what they are trained to do….. You don’t rise to the occasion. You sink to the level of your training” Lt.Col.Dave Grossman Army Ranger West Point Psychology Professor.

Remember, when we're talking about Loss Of Control In-flight. It's a pilot training issue.
